Cinecord was a product of British Homophone Ltd and many of the masters used were also available on Sterno. Cinecord was created as a result of a court action in 1934 which decreed that a license fee must be paid for playing records to the public. A few license-free records appeared, Cinecord was amongst them, for use in theatres, cinemas and dance halls. They were only available during 1935.
With the exceptions of the first issues, the bands are anonymous on Cinecords. The catalogue started at O2 and only lasted a few issues probably up to about O21. The first one was labelled OD1 (i.e. Odeon) and was a special recording by Billy Merrin & his Commanders called Round The Corner (at the Odeon). This was only available on Cinecord. Other bands heard on this label are directed by Syd Lipton, Charlie Kunz and Oscar Rabin. There are also some organ solos and a rare 8" series has also been reported.

Below is a listing of all Cinecords I have traced so far.
Any information about missing titles will be received gratefully!
All dance band titles are Foxtrots unless noted otherwise.

Matrix numbers marked * were not issued in the domestic Sterno series (No O16 was issued on French Sterno).
My thanks to Steve Walker for this information.

Despite the labels of Cinecord O2, O3 & O4, all were made at the Odeon, Haverstock Hill by land-line and the organist was Terence Casey. My thanks to Wayne Ivany of the Cinema Organ Society of Great Britain for this information.
The society has a website which can be found if you click here

There was also a series of 8" Cinecords which I have never seen, but one has been reported to me; it appears to be numbered in a single-sided manner, with a different number for each side. If you have futher information or examples, do please contact me.
