Simcha |
| Home page | Introduction | Label Index | Musicians | Sound Files |
| A short-lived label available in the early 1930s, Simcha drew its masters from Piccadilly, including some American Grey Gull items. Simcha is a Hebrew word meaning Joy or Gladness and is pronounced "Simka" (i.e. with the -ch- pronounced as a -k-.). The records were presumably made for a shop or store, but I don't know which one. The catalogue numbers are in a 10000-series and about 60 were issued. It seems the first few were dance band ones and the rest were light music and operatic vocal, at least based on the information I have so far. There was also a Hebrew series with A-100- catalogue numbers. The records generally show a false matrix number. |
This is a first attempt at a listing. Please
e-mail
me if you can help me fill in the gaps
in any of these series.
Thanks to the following for their help:
Bill Dean-Myatt, Richard
Bloomfield, George Foxon, Graham Meachen, Mike Jones, (the late) Arthur Badrock.

Just to make things even more complicated, there was a
Hebrew series with an A-100- catalogue; see Below. GIven the meaning of the
label's name, this may actually be the "proper" series and the 10000-series the
odd one. The label design is the same as the 10000 series.
