Berkeley Hotel
Piccadilly
Built on the site of an 18th century coaching inn called "The Gloucester Coffee House", the hotel opened in 1886 and was originally called "St James Hotel" before being renamed "The Berkeley" in 1897.
The hotel closed in 1969, being rebuilt in Wilton Place, reopening 1972

  The cafe was struck by a bomb on March 8, 1941, killing bandleader Ken Johnson & some of his musicians.     The Cafe then remained closed until 1948. Mar 8, 1941 1948  
  In March 2020, following the start of the Coronavirus 2019 pandemic, the Cafe closed. This was originally a temporary measure due to the Government's regulation, but on December 21st 2020, it was announced that the closure was permanent.
